Intro. to the blogging world
May 8th, 2008I am entering this exciting world of blogging. Sorry for the delay. Blogging is something new to me and something that I am willing to give a try. I look forward to hearing some thoughts, debates and concerns that you are willing to share.
With this being my first blog, let me start off by telling everyone where I am coming from. I have been living in New Bern since last August.
I love it here in North Carolina. This weather is beautiful and it doesn’t hurt to live near the beach. The Sun Journal has plenty of exciting stories that we are working on.
I am originally from Mansfield, Ohio, which is located in between Cleveland and Columbus. I am a Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians fan, as well as the Ohio State University.
I attended college at the University of Toledo.
Since I started writing for the Sun Journal I have enjoyed meeting so many greet people around the area. The sports that I have covered in New Bern have been thrilling to watch.
I enjoyed following the New Bern football team and its journey to the state championship in Winston-Salem in December. It was also amazing to witness the ran to the state finals for the Pamlico County basketball team in March.
I am looking forward to covering many more winning Craven County teams, as well as just the normal student athlete with a good story to be told.
As the spring playoffs get underway, there are several interesting stories to follow.
The New Bern girls soccer team looked impressive in its win over Jack Britt on Tuesday. The Bears, who were just one win away from reaching the state championship last year, has one of the most balanced offensive attacks I have seen.
Any one of the team is capable of scoring a goal on any given night.
The New Bern baseball team opens up its state tournament action on Friday against Holly Springs at 7 p.m.
From talking to coach Gary Smith, I found out that Holly Springs is just a second-year school with no seniors. The Bears are sending their ace to the mound, Nathan Healy.
Let’s just hope that they don’t end this season like they did last year. Last season, if case everyone forgot, New Bern lost to Apex in the first round.
The senior leadership and experience should help New Bern advance to the second round.
As for the other local team still playing, the West Craven baseball team is sending ace Shawn Armstrong to the hill against Gray’s Creek.
The senior-led Eagles should claw their way to the next round, just like they did last season.
As a sports writer I am supposed to stay unbiased, but I am hoping to see these local teams move on.
They all deserve it!
